One socket that accepts either an XLR or a 1/4-inch plug. Audio interfaces and mixers use it for mic and line inputs so a single channel can take a microphone, a keyboard or a guitar. The XLR path usually feeds the mic preamp and the jack path the line or instrument input.

A stock cable joins Combo Jack to 1/4-inch Jack, 3.5 mm Minijack, XLR, RCA, Euroblock, DB25, 2.5 mm Jack, and TT / Bantam.
A cable with these two ends is sold as a stock part. Adapters are not counted, and a cable that fits is not proof the signal belongs there.
