Your data
Whose computer is your studio on?
Most apps keep your library on their server and lend it back to you. Aureo keeps it on yours, as plain files in a folder you choose. Sync it through the cloud folder you already use, encrypt what's sensitive, and export all of it whenever you like.
Aureo
In iCloud Drive
- .aureo/ manifest.json, vault.json
- hardware/ 38 files
- photos/ 112 images
- history/ 64 files
- attachments/ 29 receipts
- software/ 214 files
- setups/ 6 files
- projects/ 41 files
- supplies/ 12 files
- tags/ 9 files
How it works
1. It starts on your computer
No account and no sign-up. Your gear, plugins, setups and projects are written to a database on your machine the moment you add them.
2. Every change lands in the vault
A folder of plain files, one per item, with your photos and receipts beside them. Put it in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive and a second computer reads it when Aureo starts.
3. Take it with you
Export the whole library as one ZIP, photos and receipts included, and restore it whole or merge it into the library you already have.
The details
- Where it lives
- A database in Aureo's app data folder, with your photos, setup images and receipts as files beside it. Nothing is stored on our servers, and there is no account to hold it.
- The vault
- A folder of JSON files, one per item: gear, software, content, cables, setups and their versions, history with its receipts, projects, tags and photos. It starts in Documents and moves from Settings, Data & Backup.
- Syncing
- Through a folder you already sync. Aureo reads the changes another computer made when it starts. If your sync service leaves a conflicted copy, Aureo tells you about it rather than guessing which one to keep.
- Encryption
- Serial numbers and software license keys can be encrypted on your computer with a passphrase you choose: AES-GCM with a 256-bit key, derived from the passphrase by PBKDF2 at 100,000 iterations. The passphrase is never stored, so keep it somewhere safe.
- Backup and restore
- From Settings, Account: one ZIP with all your data, photos, setup backgrounds and receipts. Restoring shows what the backup holds first, then replaces your library or merges into it.
- If your license lapses
- Aureo turns read-only rather than locking you out. Everything stays readable, and export keeps working.
- Usage analytics
- Off until you turn it on, in Settings, Privacy or during onboarding. When it is on, it counts which features get used, with no personal identifiers and no cookies.
- Catalog improvement
- Also off until you turn it on. It sends the bundle ID, format and maker of a plugin the catalog could not match, so it can be added, and never a file path or your name.
- Error reports
- On by default, so a crash reaches someone who can fix it. They carry the error, the app version and your OS, never project files or audio. Turn them off in Settings, Privacy.
- Deleting it all
- Removing your data from Settings, Account erases the database, every photo and receipt, and the vault's contents, after you confirm it.
What goes online
Aureo never sends your library to our servers. If you keep the vault in a cloud folder, your sync service carries it, under that service's terms. Aureo runs without a connection, and these are the only things it connects for.
- Catalog updates
- The open catalog, downloaded and checked against its checksum and signature.
- Product photos
- Catalog images, from images.aureo.audio.
- Your license
- Activated and checked with LemonSqueezy, our payment provider.
- App updates
- New versions of Aureo, from releases.aureo.audio.
- Telemetry
- Error reports, which are on until you turn them off, and usage analytics and catalog improvement, which are off until you turn them on.
The privacy policy has the rest: what each kind of telemetry may include, who processes it, and how long it is kept.
